This new freestanding Clinical Lab Building at the NorthBay Medical Center presented many challenges. The new Lab Building needed to be functionally and physically connected to the main hospital, a type V, structurally non-compliant building. Through a Master Planning process, BFHL identified the best location for the building and designed it in a way that entry points to the Lab would be placed in existing openings in the facility envelope, thus avoiding costly structural upgrades.
